My love affair with Great Danes started in the 70's and continues to this day. I can not imagine my life without at least one Great Dane sharing my home.
BLACK BEAR GREAT DANES
Stryder was the start of the love affair.
I learned how intelligent, faithful, funny, loving and gentle Danes are from Stryder. Opening the door by taking the knob in his mouth and turning his head,
leaping through the air and taking down a person who was trying to harm me, chasing his "rear" trying to find where the loud noises were coming from, opening his mouth to set down a baby mallard he was carrying were but a few of the things he did.
Spazimoto was picked up by animal control wandering
the streets of Ft. Worth Texas. They called me to come and get her as they knew I took in Danes. Spaz was suffering from sever malnutrition but soon over came that . She took her place as the head of my growing herd.
Along the way I took in other danes and found homes for them. This was before breed rescues were established. Everyone was special and there were some I just couldn't let go.
Charlie came to me as the result of a divorce. She was breed at the time and delivered a beautiful litter.
I placed her and her pups in loving homes
Myrtle the Turtle came to me via my veterinarian. A show breeder dropped her off for an ear crop but
did not want her back.
An unintentional breeding resulted in a Hughie and Gollum.
I moved to Wisconsin in 1989, bringing Spazi, Myrtle, and Hughie with me. I had been in my new home for a month when it burned to the ground, killing all my beloved dogs.
I was given The Wizzard of Ozzie after the fire. He helped my soul heal. Unfortunately he died at age 1 of heart failure.
The next addition to my household was Black Bears Baggins. Baggins was truly one of a kind, charming, frustrating, bossy, loving and totally unpredictable.
Tanoose was named after "uncle Tanoose" in the Danny Thomas show Make Room for Daddy. I know he was my Stryder, come back to be with me. Everyone loved Tanoose and they still talk about him.
Kittle came to me from a hog farm in Iowa. He was a true farmer and loved digging in the earth and planting things, like his toys.
Aragorn, or Arry, was my first show dane. He was a wonderful, gentle boy. Unfortunately he has health problems which kept him from the show ring. That was not a problem as he added so much to my life just being with me.
Diamond Danes Spirit in the Sky was my next show dog and we actually made it into the ring and got points!
Sumner's Solar Fantasy aka Gandy/Gandalf is one of those special friends you never forget. He has been through terrible pain and battled numerous health issues yet is always gentle and loving.
Vicson Vivacious Vixen aka V was a gift from a breeder. V is beautiful, charming and I recently found out she is the Queen of all dogs. Holding such an important position in dogdom precludes her wasting her time on such mundane things as showing. Her earthly mission is being a threapy dog.
My latest and probably last addition to the family is Jaya's HolyMoly Taxman is Here aka Taxi. He is a bundle of energy, never slowing down, curious about everything and a real handful.
